Of this version we even have a date of birth and a creator: it was in 1985 by the hand of Sam Torosian and today it is played throughout the web in the top UK casinos online. This, in turn, was inspired by the game of Pusoy, which introduced him to one of the oldest customers of his Bell Card Club. To make it easier, out of the three hands made with thirteen starting cards, he reduced it to the current two hands and seven cards in total.
Pai Gow literally means “make nine,” which doesn’t have much to do with the rules of the game. Its advantage is that it is very easy and you do not need to have many tables to learn it. In any case, before you start playing for real money, we always recommend that you practice with one of the demo versions that online casinos offer of Pai Gow Poker online and, once you start playing for real, know about any available cashback bonus or VIP bonus that the provider might have available.
Pai Gow Poker – The goal
In Pai Gow Poker, you are going to find a way to get two winning poker hands. You will have one of five cards and another of two, and you will face the house through the figure of the dealer.
How to play Pai Gow Poker
The first thing is to start with the basics: in Pai Gow 52 cards are dealt, a standard deck. The table usually takes place for six players (in the online version it is usually a single player-dealer duel).
Hands on the game
Players are dealt a total of seven cards, with which they form two hands: one of five cards and one of two. The hand of two cards, or “front hand” must necessarily be lower than the five. The five-card hand, or “rear hand”: must be the highest of the two.
- Royal flush: cards A, J, Q, K, 10 all of the same suit.
- Straight flush: consecutive cards of the same color.
- Poker: four equal cards.
- Full House: pair and trio of cards.
- Color: all cards of the same color.
- Straight: consecutive cards, regardless of their color or suit.
- Three of a kind: three of the same cards.
- Double Pair: Two pairs of cards equal to each other.
- Pair: two higher cards.
- Highest letter.
Winning combinations
The combinations for the two-card hand are simple: it must be a pair of cards as high as possible. As for the possible combinations for the five-card hand, they will be the following (and are based on poker, with the variants that each region or casino adopts)
How to win at Poker Pai Gow
Normally there will be a minimum bet and a maximum bet. When it comes to the chances of winning, keep in mind that the casino always has an advantage: If your hands are both better than theirs, you have won.
If, on the other hand, only one of the two was superior, the dealer winning one of the two hands, even if it was the lesser, the two-card one, it would be considered a tie and they would return your bet.
In effect, the dealer does not lose even if only his lower hand is higher than yours. This gives the house an advantage and makes the Pai Gow Poker more difficult and more entertaining for the player.
